William Winkenwerder Jr., MD, MBA
Board of Directors

Former Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, William Winkenwerder Jr. served as the main advisor to the Secretary of Defense for all department health policies and programs, and led the Military Health System for six years. Before his Pentagon service, Dr. Winkenwerder spent 13 years in executive leadership positions in the healthcare industry. Past positions include Vice Chairman, Office of the Chief Executive and Executive Vice President for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, and Vice President at Emory University.

Now a strategic member of LHI's business development team, Dr. Winkenwerder graduated from Davidson College, and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at North Carolina Memorial Hospital, and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. He also completed a fellowship in health services research at the University of Pennsylvania and received his MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
